ETC■■■THE SOLVENTS GUIDE
■0100
│ ƒ5 Solvents Comparative database of solvent properties. │
The SOLVENTS GUIDE presents a list of common solvents. You can select a
solvent according to various combinations of specifications and export its
molecular weight back to the Solutions Calculator.
The Solvent Guide is a comparative database of 51 commonly used solvents.
Its indexing feature allows you to compare various solvents by examining 12
different solvent characteristics. The molecular weight of the solvent can
then be used in the Solutions Calculator.
When the Solvent Guide screen is first displayed, the top section will show
an abbreviation of a property along with the full label of each property.
After three seconds, the labels will be replaced by the values for the
selected solvent. The displayed values change as the selected solvent
changes.
To start the "Solvents" chemical substance database function from the
main menu, press "V" or [ƒ5] or select with the highlight bar and press
enter or with your mouse, double-click the menu line.

USING THE SOLVENTS DATABASE
THE SOLVENTS DATABASE SCREEN
The display for the solvents database consists of an upper section in which
the properties for the current selection are shown and a lower section
displaying a three column list of the solvents in the database. When first
displayed, the top section will show abbreviations of properties along with
the full label of each property. After three seconds, the labels will be
replaced by the values for the selected solvent. The displayed values
change as the selected solvent changes.
IDENTIFYING THE PROPERTIES LIST
When the actual properties are being displayed, they are each labeled with
two-letter abbreviation. To identify the abbreviations, press [ƒ5]. The
property values will be replaced by the property labels. Pressing any key
returns the display to normal mode.
CHOOSING AN INDEX PROPERTY
The currently selected Index Property is indicated on the screen by
highlighting and by the > symbol. The default index property is the common
name. With name selected, press the [+] and [-] keys to observe that the
solvent selector moves through the substance list in alphabetical order.
Press [pgup] and [pgdn] to change the index indicator to another property.
INDEXING BY PROPERTY
With one of the numeric value properties selected as the index, pressing
[+] and [-] will move the selection through the solvents list in increasing
or decreasing value for that property. When you reach the highest or
lowest value for a property, the selection will roll-over to the other end
of the list.
PRINTING A SOLVENT REPORT
When you have selected a solvent you can send a report to a printer or to a
file by pressing [alt-ƒ5] and using the report utility.
EXPORTING SOLVENT MOLECULAR WEIGHT TO THE SOLUTION CALCULATOR
After selecting a solvent you can transfer program control directly to the
solutions calculator function by pressing [ƒ6]. A dialog window will ask
you if you want to place the selected solvent molecular weight in the
corresponding field of the solutions calculator.

ȟSelecting A Solvent
Select a solvent from the displayed list by clicking on the solvent name
with a mouse or by moving the highlight with the cursor keys. The plus and
minus keys select solvents in increasing or decreasing value of the
currently selected index property. You can also go to the extreme values
of the current property with the [home] and [end] keys.

ȊProperty Labels
The top section of the solvent screen displays the properties of the
currently selected solvent with a two character abbreviation of each
property label. To view the complete labels, press the [ƒ5] key. The next
keystroke or mouse click will return the display to normal format with the
property values displayed.
